Why this wine matters
San Marzano created the wine in 2012 to mark fifty years since the winery’s founding. It is non-vintage and built from native Salento red varieties, so its identity is house style rather than one particular harvest.
How it is made
After malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, the wine spends around 12 months in French oak barriques, giving the ripe fruit a clear layer of spice and vanilla.
What does it taste like?
Plum and red-fruit preserve lead into vanilla, liquorice and warm spice. The palate is full-bodied, soft and rounded, with a long, plush finish.
Serve it well
