Campo del Lago Merlot

Merlot · plum · berries · cocoa · forest floor · soft freshness

Campo del Lago is a compelling counterpoint to international Merlot stereotypes: historical vineyard material, limestone soils and a distinctly savoury Veneto character.

Why this wine matters

More than a famous label.

Inama revived this historic Colli Berici label after acquiring the old Villa del Ferro Lazzarini vineyards. The original Merlot selections are around 50 years old, giving the wine a strong regional story rather than just a familiar grape name.

How it is made

The decisions behind the style.

The wine is 100% Merlot from calcareous soils and spends around 12 months in first-, second- and third-use barriques.

What does it taste like?

The shape of the wine.

Berries, plum and mulberry meet pine, clove, undergrowth, cocoa and coffee. The palate is soft and round but retains enough freshness to avoid heaviness.

If this wine were human…

The comfortable sophisticate

If Campo del Lago Merlot were human, it would be polished without being precious and unusually good at making people feel at ease.

Does any of this sound suspiciously familiar?

Polished without being precious and unusually good at making people feel at ease. You notice small details and then pretend you did not, mostly to see whether anyone else does.

At dinner, you are happy to share the bottle, but you definitely noticed who poured themselves the heroic measure. Secretly, you are slightly competitive about having found the good place before everyone else.

In short: polished without being precious and unusually good at making people feel at ease. merlot energy, translated into a person.

Purely for fun — this is the wine’s fictional personality, not a psychological reading of yours.

And the cheese?

No dead ends.

Start with this wine and move straight into cheese, or build a whole tasting around it.
