What is Martinique rhum agricole made from?
Fresh sugar-cane juice fermented and distilled; Martinique AOC is governed by specific production and origin requirements.
Is every rum from Martinique an AOC agricole?
No. Only qualifying products under the AOC specification can use the protected appellation.
How is agricole different from Barbados or Jamaican rum?
Agricole uses fresh cane juice, whereas many other Caribbean rums start with molasses. Styles still vary widely by producer.
Does AOC prove a rum tastes better?
No. It protects origin and production rules, not a drinker's taste preference or a product score.
What is the difference between blanc, élevé sous bois and vieux?
AOC categories distinguish white resting without wood, at least 12 months in wood and at least three years aged in wood, alongside other detailed requirements.
Does the Clément visitor estate distil all Clément rum?
Do not assume that. Distillery production sites, barrel warehouses and historic visitor estates can be different locations.
How strong is rhum agricole blanc?
Bottle strength varies and can be substantially over 40% ABV; always read the label. Off-still distillation strength is not serving strength.
