The Lakes Whiskymaker's Editions Cascade Whisky, 70cl

The Cascade is one of the lighter, more floral releases in The Lakes Distillery's Whiskymaker's Editions series: a single malt built from an eclectic mix of casks rather than the sherry-forward profile The Lakes is best known for. On the nose there is fresh-cut flowers, stone fruit, digestive biscuit and a wisp of coffee, with dried fruit and vanilla underneath. The palate brings wood spice, vanilla and crème caramel alongside more dried fruit and cracked black pepper, finishing long with a coffee caramel sweetness. At 46.6% Alc., it is bottled non-chill filtered and at natural colour, so nothing has been stripped out or added back for looks.. We think this is one of the more interesting entries in the Whiskymaker's Editions range: it shows what happens when The Lakes' house style is deliberately set aside. It is worth trying for anyone who finds sherried single malts a little heavy, or who simply wants to taste a different side of English whisky. Only 1,002 bottles were released, each
