2023 Brunel de la Gardine Saint-Joseph

If you like Syrah with a bit of attitude, Saint-Joseph is worth getting to know. The vines grow on steep granite slopes above the river Rhône, and the wines tend to be fresher and more peppery than the big reds from further south. This bottle comes from the Brunel family, owners of Château de la Gardine in Châteauneuf-du-Pape since 1945. Bursting with black fruits and spice, with a distinctive floral lift. Dark cherry, black pepper, and violet aromas meet elegant tannins on the palate, culminating in a stony, mineral-driven finish. Will match beautifully with chargrilled lamb with rosemary, duck with blackberry sauce and roasted aubergine with tahini and pomegranate.
