The windswept cypress tree, an unmistakable icon of California’s Central Coast, owes its twisted, gnarled appearance to the constant movement of maritime air. The ocean’s influence on the region is significant, cooling the valleys at night and helping to preserve the grapes’ natural acidity and flavour.. The 2021 vintage saw generous pre-season rainfall in January, followed by an especially dry winter and spring. These dry conditions encouraged the vines to produce small but exceptionally concentrated berries. The Cypress Vineyards Merlot showcases vibrant cherry and currant flavours set against a light touch of oak and framed by medium tannins. Distinct varietal aromas of black cherry and red currant lead to a red-fruited profile reminiscent of a classic claret, with a comfortable palate weight and a bright, refreshing finish.
